Benicia, CA
These days, I’m not photographing my usual bigger weddings. Typically this time of year I’d be wrapping up my busy season, finishing with plenty of company holiday parties through the new year. Instead, I’m focusing on smaller shoots, including families, shooting throughout the Bay Area.
There are a few things you want to consider for your family shoot. First is location. Do you want something on the beach? Something in a park or the woods? Or a more urban setting? Luckily we have a wide range of locales in the Bay Area. The above photo is from a small park in Benicia, but I also have recommendations for photoshoots in Berkeley, Oakland, the Peninsula, and all around the area.
Your second consideration is usually what to wear. Should everyone match? Should the parents match, and the kids wear something else? The simplest answer is you want everyone to look coordinated, but not matchy. The above photo is a great example of a family that looks put together and coordinated, without anyone clashing. Think about repeating a single color throughout the outfits. You also don’t want to be too casual or too formal, unless that’s the look you want. The most important thing, however, is that you and your family feel comfortable in your clothes. It shows!
